10 May Gross motor development as part of our curriculum
At Amazing K we believe that learning should be an enjoyable experience and that the key to developing gross motor skills is understanding what the body can do.
Pretend games like “hopping like Mr Rabbit” or “flying like an airplane” can fire up a child’s imagination. Activities such as tunnel crawling, hopscotch, swing bat, ball-skills, Frisbee throwing and catching, hoola-hoops, running, jumping and throwing all require using large muscles.
Gross motor skills are essential because the body develops from large movements such as control of the arms and legs to small, isolated movements that include the hands and fingers. Without reasonable gross motor control it can be difficult for children to move onto developing their fine motor skill which are required for writing, dressing and so much more.
Gross motor activities form part of our daily Curriculum.
